Rosario Dawson showcases a slim frame in a white, long-sleeved top and white bikini bottoms on the cover of Shape magazine’s August 2011 issue and says that society’s views regarding women’s bodies is a form of violence.
The 32-year-old actress has been touted for her sexy moves and fit body in films such as “Sin City” and “Rent,” made her comments in a video interview posted on the magazine’s website, which also includes footage of her posing in several bikinis.
She said people have told her on Twitter that she is “too skinny.” Dawson played Mimi, an HIV-positive drug addict in “Rent,” a 2005 movie based on a Broadway musical. She said she lost weight to get into character.
“I remember everyone asking when I was doing press for the movie, ‘What did you do to look so thin? You looked great’ and I’m like, ‘I looked emaciated,'” Dawson told Shape.
“It’s a form of violence, in the way that we look at women and how we expect them to look and be – for what sake?” she said. “Not health, not survival, not enjoyment of life but just so you could look pretty. I’m constantly telling girls all the time, ‘Everything’s airbrushed, everything’s retouched. None of us look like that.'”
Regardless, she said she is “grateful to be on the cover of Shape and be able to show myself, my normal self.”

Kevin Lee Miller has been arrested for allegedly stalking MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall, the New York Post reported Friday.
Kevin Lee Miller, a 55-year-old man from Florida, allegedly showed up outside Hall’s New York home on Monday.
“I see you are being incognito,” he said, according to the Post. “Do you live around here? Do you like New York better than Chicago?” He then followed her for several blocks. When he reportedly showed up again on Wednesday, Hall called 911, and Miller was arrested.
It’s at least the second time Hall has had to deal with a stalker. While she was working at a Chicago television station, a man repeatedly sent her sexually explicit emails and letters asking her to marry him. He even turned up outside the studio where she worked. He was eventually jailed in 2004. Be Strong Tamron
Classy Lady indeed!
Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, son of the late great Bob Marley, have been together for over a decade, have 5 children together, and Lauryn Hill is currently pregnant with their 6th child (well I’m assuming it’s his his). But that hasn’t stopped Rohan from leaving her for a young Brazilian model named Isabeli Fontana. Rumors of the split had been circulating, but Wednesday Isabeli tweeted “I’m in love with @Romarley ‘s hear” and attached a link to a photo of them together.
Poor Lauryn, but hey, she told us that some men are only about ‘that thing’. So the question now is will this further delay Lauryn’s follow-up to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill which was supposed to have dropped by now? Below is a photo of Isabeli Fontana. .Dang Lauryn your either “READY or NOT”
A spokesman for R. Kelly says the R&B singer is in the hospital after emergency throat surgery.
Kelly publicist Allan Mayer said Wednesday that doctors drained an abscess on one of Kelly’s tonsils on Tuesday and that the singer will be “laid up indefinitely” at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Mayer says Kelly had been complaining of throat pain recently and was rushed to the hospital after a throat exam.
At a Charlotte Bobcats’ fantasy camp, 48-year-old NBA legend Michael Jordan gave the fans in attendance quite a treat. He showed that, despite his age and well-chronicled knee issues, he was still able to dunk a basketball.
The dunk itself didn’t bring back memories of the back in the day Air Jorden, who is considered among the greatest dunkers in NBA history. But the ease with which he was able to complete the dunk is quite impressive.
Despite being retired, Jordan, the majority owner of the Bobcats, has been known to practice with the team and hold his own.
But Jordan isn’t the only NBA star aging well the former dunk phenom Dominique Wilkins is still able to throw it down going into his 50s as well.
Ja Rule was sentenced Monday to more than two years in federal prison for failing to file income tax returns. Ja Rule spoke up for a minute:
“I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal,” Ja said, minutes before being sentenced in a New Jersey federal court. “I was a young man who made a lot of money – I’m getting a little choked up – I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.”
The multiplatinum-selling artist, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, admitted in March that he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million that he earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in Saddle River.
Ja Rule was sentenced in New York City last month to up to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal weapon possession. The case stemmed from a gun found in his car in 2007.
U.S. Magistrate Patty Shwartz in Newark ruled that the majority of his 28-month federal sentence could be served at the same time as New York state prison sentence.
Depending on his release date for his New York sentence, he could serve from four to 12 months of the federal sentence. The federal time will be served at the Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate New York, where he is serving the state sentence.
He has also been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.
Wearing a bright yellow prison jumpsuit and handcuffed at the wrists, Ja Rule turned to look at his wife, who was seated in the courtroom, after the sentence was read. She declined to comment after the hearing, saying only that it was a stressful time.
Ja Rule’s attorney, Stacy Richman, said he was saddened by the sentence, as he wanted to be reunited with his family and get back to work in order to be able to pay his taxes.
Al Sharpton could be made MSNBC’s next host, TVNewser reports.
Sharpton has suddenly become a frequent presence behind the anchor desk for the network. He has guest hosted “The Ed Show” multiple times and, for the past two weeks, has been filling in for Cenk Uygur at 6 PM. It is in that slot that Sharpton may emerge victorious, TVNewser writes, with Uygur being pushed aside.
If true, the reports are certain to raise eyebrows. Sharpton is, to say the least, a polarizing figure. Even so, he has not noticeably strayed from the standard MSNBC playbook during his guest-hosting stints.
MSNBC, as well as the other cable news networks, has also been drawing fire for its lack of on-air diversity. There is not a single African American prime time host on any cable news channel, something the NAACP recently blasted the networks for. However, if Uygur, who is Turkish, were displaced by Sharpton, it would still leave the network with just three hosts of color across the entire day: Sharpton, Tamron Hall and Richard Lui.
Will, the Men In Black star was in great shape as he splashed around with son Jayden and daughter Willow on the paradise island of Hawaii.
The Philadelphia-born 42-year-old donned a pair of calf-length blue swimming shorts as he enjoyed the sunshine.
The Fresh Prince lapped up the chance to spend some quality time with his kids after an intense period of filming.
‘It was great to see him having fun with his kids, and they look like such a close family.’
Karate Kid Jaden, 13, looked like he loved playing on the beach, and got a good workout as he played around with other children.
Pint-sized singing star Willow, 10, preferred to laze around away from the action and pick up music tips from rapper Will.
Will was enjoying a break after he finished filming for the latest part of the Men In Black series this month.
He had been in New York since February recording scenes for the franchise’s third movie along with fellow MIB Tommy Lee Jones.
People are expecting it to be a huge hit when it is released next year.
And there was more good for fans of Big Willie this month, as Transformers director Michael Bay said he is wants to direct another entry to the Bad Boys series.
He said: ‘We talk about Bad Boys 3. It’s hard to get our schedules together but it’s great working with those guys.’
The film will see Will team up again with Big Momma’s House star Martin Lawrence as hip Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.
