Eddie Franklin, son of the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, is undergoing surgery after being severely beaten Monday night at a gas station in Detroit.
The incident took place at gas station located at Plymouth Road and Evergreen Ave, and Grammy winner is asking that anyone with information contact area police.
The singer’s longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn has confirmed that Eddie was attacked by as many as three people – two men and one woman.
Reports indicate that authorities are on the search for a woman about 19-years-old with short haircut; and a male that is believed to be about six-feet tall and has dreadlocks.
All three suspects are African-American.
update:
Eddie Franklin, 52, underwent emergency surgery today after being severely assaulted by two men and a woman at the station near Plymouth and Evergreen.
He was taken to a local hospital by an unidentified person at the station who then filed a police report.
But police officials were surprised to find that Eddie had already checked himself out of hospital when they went to talk to him today.
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens says: ‘When our officers went to talk to him at the hospital, he had already checked himself out and left.
Officials have not released details on the person who brought Eddie to the hospital.
And they claim there was no security video at the gas station to identify the suspects.
‘We have nothing at all,’ Stephens says.
Eddie was a suspect in the 2002 fire at his mother’s mansion in Bloomfield Township, Michigan.
He was later cleared of torching the 10,000-square-foot home, following major discrepancies in evidence and witness statements.
Aretha had Eddie when she 16 years old, and Eddie’s older brother Clarence when she was 13.
She never identified the father of the boys, and left them with her grandmother Rachel while she pursued her career.
The multiple Grammy winner also had two more sons: Ted White Jr., 46, with husband Ted White and Kecalf, 40, with road manager Ken Cunningham.
Both Ted White Jr. and Kecalf Cunningham, are involved in the music business, with Teddy playing guitar in Aretha’s back up band since the late 1980s.
