A woman’s body went undetected in a Fall River public pool for days as swimmers continued to use the pool before the victim was found floating, police said Wednesday. A new twist has came up, The pool where a Fall River woman’s body went unnoticed for days should not have been open at all.
Fall River Mayor William Flanagan said the facility’s permit expired in December.
Two Fall River health inspectors are now on administrative leave after checking the state-run pool both Monday and Tuesday and not noticing the body of Marie Joseph in the water. Officials believe the 36-year-old mother drowned Sunday.
“It has come to my attention that health inspectors from the city visited the pool on Monday and on Tuesday and inspected the facilities.” said Flanagan, who is calling for a full probe into the drowning.
Autopsy results could be released as early as Friday, according to the District Attorney’s office.
The state claims there is no health threat to anyone who went swimming in the pool while Joseph’s body was in the water.
Dozens of state-run pools shut down in the wake of the incident could reopen Friday.
