Fox is the host of TV Land’s new reality show, The Cougar, which premieres on April 15. On the series, Fox guides 40-year-old single mom Stacey Anderson through a throng of 20-somethings vying for her attention. Fox, who has had relationships with younger men like 50 Cent and ex-husband Christopher Harvest, seemed a perfect fit for the role—and she wasn’t afraid to give Anderson her expert advice behind the scenes. “There were a couple of guys that she liked, that I was like, are you serious? They were so transparent,” she said. (Luckily, she said, those men eventually got the ax.)
Fox did share some horror stories about the men Anderson sent packing. “The one guy drove me nuts that offered her an Australian kiss,” she said—as in a kiss down under. “It was so crude, so out of line. And [Anderson] was like, ‘Oh, hell no!’ She also remembered one of the most disastrous challenges: when the guys were sent to pick out a dress for Anderson to wear on a date. “Woo! I tell you. That sent some of them home so quickly…It was like, did you bother to look at her skin tone?”
Fox, who says she’s open to dating men her age or older, said there are unique pros and cons to being the older woman. The best part? “Wisdom,” she was quick to answer. “All those games and one-liners he’ll get over on a 20 year old, he ain’t getting over on you!” But the star had a warning for any cougars-in-training. “My first tip is: please make sure that you’re not a sugar mama,” she said. “That changes the dynamic of any relationship. Even if he’s younger than you, you need to feel equal.”
Fox applies that same philosophy to staying fit. She works out with a trainer three to five times a week, and eats “a lot of fish and vegetables” to keep a figure that would rival any 20-somethings.
So what kind of guy can inspire this cougar to pounce? She says it all comes down to one big requirement: “Someone that can be my friend.”
