Oh NO!! Bill Murray inadvertently met a long-time fan Sunday by hooking his 9th-hole tee-off into her head while playing at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am tournament in Tampa Bay.After being told that his ball had hit a fan, Murray rushed over to find her on the ground.
“How many fingers am I holding up?” he asked.
“Three,” she said.
“Is my ball in bounds or out of bounds?”
Murray’s quick wit got a big laugh from everyone, including the victim of his wayward shot, Gail DiMaggio. DiMaggio was examined at a hospital and determined to be fine, but she was quickly back at the golf course. DiMaggio, who lives near the 9th hole, said she had just stepped out to watch Murray take his shot.
“She was overjoyed when she saw me because she said she had come out to see me and her husband had just said, ‘I hope he hits it over here,'” Murray said. “I wasn’t sure if I was in bounds or not. I saw this NBC golf cart coming at me and he said, ‘I hate to be the one to tell you this but you hit a lady. She’s down on the ground.’ That is, you know, sobering.”
Murray signed his scorecard for DiMaggio and let her tag along for a while before joking to the press that she wasn’t the first spectator he’d hit.
